The project was created as a response to a growing, already large, number of complaints from household residents about uncollected trash. Uncollected trash is problematic because it tends to emit odor the longer it remains uncollected, obstructs pathways and an overall burden, and accumulates into large heaps. To address this issue, this project introduced an AI-based image trash detection system, which will supply a city planner with data and insights into the city's daily trash usage and collection.
